I fitted a bluetooth dongle to the desktop Win XP. I set up a new connection to the laptop Win 7 and it found it and created a passkey which I accepted on the laptop. I could then transfer files from the desktop to the Laptop no problem.

I then set up a new connection on the laptop, and it found the desktop but did not ask for verification. I click on connect and it connects without asking for verification. Now, on my Laptop, when I right click on a file in Windows explorer, it does not show my desktop connection and a search does not find it either, although the connection to my cellphone was set up successfully and shows it in the right click menu.

Try removing the other connections and just connect the Windows 7 computer to the Windows XP computer and check if the connection works fine. Make sure that your Bluetooth device is discoverable and that your computer is set to enable Bluetooth devices to connect to your computer.

Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the notification area, and then click Open Bluetooth Settings. On the Options tab, click to select the Turn discovery on check box, and then click Apply.

To enable Bluetooth devices to connect to your computer, click to select the Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer check box, and then click OK. Now check if you are able to connect to the Windows XP computer from the Windows 7 computer.
